Chaneges at LEPJBC and a Tribute to past 2007 committee

At the recent Lloyd Elsmore Park Junior Club prizegiving there was a changing of the guard with Dev Senthiya taking over the role as Chairman from Michael Chi.  Peter Dunne - Executive Director Badminton NZ - was the guest speaker and it was a night full of exhibition games and a host of awards.  Michael has done a huge amount for the club both on and off court as has the whole team at Lloyd Elsmore.  Charles Simms, Gloria Chan are also pulling back next year and have given a huge amount of service to the club.

The Lloyd Elsmore Park Junior Badminton Club has seen tremendous growth over the 2007 season.  The year has been a great success in many ways – from an increase in our interclub teams, to the continual growth of talent participating in our Open Tournaments.  Sadly, as the season comes to a close we will be saying farewell to a handful of truly valued committee members and volunteers.

Firstly, we would like to say a big thanks to Charles Simms, who has been involved with the junior club since the hall was first built in 1981.  He has been a session coach for a many number of years and has been a huge driving factor behind a number of changes to our Primary and Intermediate sessions.  His involvement in badminton extends beyond our club, where he is a regular Auckland team coach.  He will be leaving us to spend more time with his family.  His regular contributions and fresh views will surely be missed.

Next we would like to farewell Gloria Chan.  Gloria has been with us as secretary for the past 2 years, in which time she has been responsible for contacting our members, either by phone or through mail.  She has also been responsible for organising all of our meetings and I’m sure things would not have run nearly as smoothly without her.

And finally, a big thanks to Michael Chi who has been both coach and club chairman for the past 3 years.  Also another driving factor behind many of the changes seen in the club, Michael has been involved many projects within the club, including the reinvention of our club logo, introduction of new matching Tshirts, promotions and organisation of two very successful open tournaments as well as the successful orchestration of our prize giving evenings in recent years.  He will be leaving us to focus more on his current studies, and will also be missed.
